Good evening, everybody, and welcome aboard here to the update 2023 Advanced Training Statement on Interventional Cardiology, which is presented to you this evening by the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. My name is Doug Drachman. I'm an interventional cardiologist at Mass General Hospital in Boston, where I'm also a program director for Interventional Cardiology Fellowship, and I have a particular interest in competency-based education. So I'm really thrilled to be with you all tonight to talk about this Advanced Training Statement and serve as your moderator for the evening. I'm joined by an illustrious panel of the authors or framers, if you will, of this Advanced Training Statement that include Dr. Ted Bass, who is a professor of medicine at the University of Florida Health in Jacksonville and a former president of SCI, as well as the chair of the ATS writing committee. By Dr. Dawn Abbott, who is a professor of medicine, associate chief of faculty development and academic advancement, and the director of the interventional cardiology and cardiac cath lab at Brown Rhode Island Hospital. She's one of the co-chairs of the ATS with a focus on interventional cardiology. By Dr. Shami Mahmood, who's the division chief of cardiovascular medicine and the executive director of medicine at the Cardiovascular Institute and director of interventional cardiology at UC San Diego. He also is a former president of SCI and is a co-chair of the ATS focused on structural intervention. By Dr. Sahil Parikh, who is the director of endovascular services and an associate professor of medicine at the Columbia University, where he also is a co-chair of the ATS with a focus on vascular medicine and intervention. And we will also hear the perspective of Dr. Thuy Pham, who is currently an interventional cardiology fellow at the Heart Hospital in Baylor, Plano. We are also joined by some illustrious panelists that include Dr. Wayne Batchelor, who's director of interventional cardiology and interventional cardiology research at Inova, also is the chair of the ACC Interventional Section Leadership Council. By Dr. Anna Bortnik, who is an associate professor of medicine at Montefiore and is also a program director for interventional cardiology fellowship there. And by Dr. Fred Welt, who is associate chief of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine and director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory. He's a professor of medicine, is a member of the interventional cardiology faculty there. And he's also a past chair of the ACC Interventional Section Leadership Council. Now that we have the introductions behind us, let's move on to the discussions here. We're here tonight to discuss the monumental accomplishment of developing an advanced training statement on interventional cardiology. This represents a tremendous effort establishing consensus among multiple societies that include and were led by SCI, ACC, and the AHA. And through this process, I think you'll grow to understand that they've developed a blueprint that truly describes the requirements for training in interventional cardiology and the sub-disciplines in structural intervention and peripheral intervention. This document is modeled after the concept of the COCATS documents that you may all be familiar with, that outline the training experience and ultimately the skills and knowledge that are necessary to achieve independent competence in cardiology, and in this case, in interventional cardiology. I believe that this represents a true tour de force by linking three separate disciplines in interventional cardiology by unifying their common goals, but also highlighting their unique requirements. So in the next hour and 15 minutes, we will focus on the process to develop the advanced training statement, the information that is included within the statement itself with a focused overview and some practical take-home messages, how to understand and how to use this document, and what the document means for trainees in interventional cardiology as well as for program directors. This session is designed to be interactive. There will be presentations that will be followed by a panel discussion. So please, for all of you who are attending here tonight, please feel free to use the Q&A function to enter your questions, and we will make every effort to make sure that those are heard and we respond to them. So without further ado, I will now turn over the microphone to Dr. Ted Bass, who will describe the process of developing this important statement. Thanks, Ted.
