Overview

This Conversation in Interventional Cardiology focuses on contemporary evidence comparing endovascular, surgical, and novel hybrid approaches for the treatment of long and complex femoropopliteal lesions, with a focus on findings from a recent systematic review and the 3-year DETOUR2 trial. Learners will explore patient selection, procedural considerations, long-term durability, and post-procedural management strategies for advanced endovascular interventions, including percutaneous transmural arterial bypass (PTAB), to inform evidence-based management of complex peripheral arterial disease.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Evaluate comparative long-term outcomes of endovascular, surgical, and novel hybrid approaches for complex femoropopliteal lesions
  • Identify appropriate candidates for advanced endovascular interventions, including PTAB, based on lesion morphology and patient risk profile
  • Apply key procedural principles and peri-procedural strategies for performing advanced endovascular revascularization techniques
  • Implement evidence-based post-procedural management strategies to improve long-term patency and reduce adverse limb events
