Overview

Coronary artery calcification complicates PCI by limiting stent delivery and expansion and increasing procedural risk. Findings from the RESTORE ATK and FRACTURE IDE studies underscore the need for education on calcium assessment, lesion preparation, and evidence-based use of emerging IVL technologies. This activity features authors from both studies and an expert panel who discuss the data's impact on clinical practice and patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Differentiate IVL from PTA, stenting, and atherectomy based on mechanism of action, safety profile, and procedural outcomes in calcified peripheral artery disease.
  2. Evaluate procedural and clinical outcomes of IVL therapy, including residual stenosis thresholds, complication rates, and short-term clinical endpoints.
  3. Apply appropriate patient and lesion selection criteria for IVL in patients with calcified femoropopliteal disease.
  4. Apply an evidence-based, device-agnostic lesion-preparation strategy for severely calcified coronary disease based on patient, lesion, and procedural factors.
