Overview

Sirolimus-eluting balloons (SEBs) represent a significant advancement in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), offering a “leave nothing behind” approach that avoids permanent implants and their associated complications. Despite promising results from European trials and recent U.S. FDA approvals for drug-coated balloons (DCBs), adoption in the U.S. remains limited due to narrow indications, reimbursement challenges, and lack of standardized protocols. This educational activity addresses these barriers by disseminating contemporary evidence and practical guidance on SEBs, including insights from pivotal trials such as SELUTION DeNovo and SELUTION4ISR.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  1. Interpret current clinical trial data (SELUTION DeNovo, SELUTION4ISR) to guide SEB use in PCI.
  2. Apply best practices for lesion preparation and balloon sizing during SEB deployment.
  3. Differentiate treatment strategies for ISR using SEBs versus repeat DES implantation.
  4. Design follow-up plans incorporating imaging and clinical assessments after SEB PCI.
