Managing Coronary Thrombus in an Acute Coronary Syndrome Setting
Overview
Thrombus remains a barrier of procedural success during PCI and has been associated with poor outcomes including increased risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). During this session faculty speakers will address a range of topics including challenges associated with high thrombus burden and their protocol and algorithms for treating coronary thrombus in various applications including vein grafts, stent thrombosis, and no reflow.
Agenda and Invited Faculty
Moderator: Ehrin J. Armstrong, MD, FSCAI
Panelists: Andrew J.P. Klein, MD, FSCAI; and Sahil A. Parikh, MD, FSCAI
- Introduction, Ehrin J. Armstrong, MD, FSCAI
- Introduction to Thrombus During PCI and Protocols & Algorithms—How I Manage Coronary Thrombus, Jon C. George, MD, FSCAI
- Panel Discussion
- Thrombotic Applications in the Setting of Vein Grafts, Stent Thrombosis, and No Reflow and Decision-Making Process and Case Review, Ehrin J. Armstrong, MD, FSCAI
- Panel Discussion
Learning ObjectivesAt the end of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Discuss protocols and algorithms for managing coronary thrombus in percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI).
- Compare the thrombotic applications in the setting of vein grafts, stent thrombosis, and no flows.
- Analyze a patient case and the decision-making process when treating coronary thrombus in PCI.

Accreditation Statement
The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Credit Designation
SCAI designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
ABIM MOC
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 1.0 medical knowledge MOC point in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
Successful Completion

CTO PCI: Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
Agenda & Invited Faculty
Coronary CTO PCI is all about challenging the conventional interventional techniques. It is about getting out of your comfort zone and wiring the impossible septal or epicardial, intentionally knuckling a wire and dissecting a vessel. In this webinar, faculty discuss tips and tricks to get comfortable with these unconventional techniques. Master operators will discuss their most difficult cases and the lessons they have learned. Join us. Get out of your comfort zone and advance your skillset to the next level.
Moderator: Craig A. Thompson, MD, FSCAI
Q&A Moderator: Margaret McEntegart, MD
• My Best and Worst ADR Cases: Lessons Learned, William J. Nicholson, MD
• My Best and Worst Septal Retrograde Cases: Lessons Learned, Stéphane Rinfret, MD, FSCAI
• My Best and Worst Epicardial Retrograde Cases: Lessons Learned, Margaret McEntegart, MD
• CTO PCI: When It's Time to Call It Quits, Ashish Pershad, MD, FSCAI
Learning ObjectivesAfter completing this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Recognize and plan for the challenges of ADR, difficult septal surfing and septal-retrograde, retrograde via epicardials, and donor vessel thrombosis, epicardial avulsion, septal perforation, and dry tamponade.
