Overview

In this video, the authors and SCAI experts discuss findings from the BENELUX‑IVL registry evaluating the incidence, management, and outcomes of complications following coronary intravascular lithotripsy in an all‑comers PCI population.

They highlight a low overall complication rate, procedural success, and important differences in clinical outcomes between patients with and without complications. They also discuss predictors of complications and practical implications for optimizing IVL use in real‑world practice.

Join Drs. Goldsweig, Montero-Cabezas, van Oort, Claessen, and Davies in their discussion of this original research article.

This activity is supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Shockwave Medical.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Recognize the overall safety profile of coronary intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) when used in contemporary, real‑world clinical practice.
  • Understand the types of complications that may occur during procedures involving IVL and how they are typically identified and managed.
  • Discuss the potential impact of procedural complications on short‑ and longer‑term clinical outcomes.
  • Apply general principles from recent evidence to support safe and effective use of IVL in patients with calcified coronary lesions.
