Acknowledgment of Commercial Support:

This activity is supported by an unrestricted educational grant from LivaNova | TandemLife. No in-kind support has been received.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss escalation of hemodynamic support in cardiogenic shock.
  2. Describe the hemodynamics of left atrium-aorta (LA-AO) mechnaical circulatory support (MCS).
  3. Outline the benefits of right-sided MCS.
  4. Analyze the hemodynamics of bi-ventricular MCS.
  5. Identify when escalation to veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-A ECMO) may be efficacious in cardiogenic shock.
