Learning Objectives

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Explain why plaque volume is a key clinical marker of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).
  • Appreciate the efficacy of eicosapentaenoic acid ethyl ester and other therapies to reduce plaque volume, stabilize plaque, and reduce ASCVD events.
  • Apply guideline recommendations for the secondary prevention of coronary artery disease (CAD) after acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and discuss the guideline changes that have been proposed based on recent data.
